Eating Disorders

The pressure to be thin in today’s world has increased over the past twenty years. Waif-like images of models grace the pages of magazines, and the media coverage of dieting tips / weight loss methods have become an all too common topic. Society values appearance and glamour, but what about inner beauty? Many women as well as men are consumed by the desire to be thin, which has lead to eating disorders (both anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa). Furthermore, in a world that may feel out of control, many anorexics find comfort in the belief that they have the power to control what is put in their mouth.

Danielle Jagoda, Marriage and Family Therapist, helps her clients struggling with eating disorders by examining their issues with control and perfectionism. She also looks at family and societal influences on self-image. Throughout the psychotherapy process, Danielle explores her clients’ perceptions of themselves and helps them to regain a sense of self. She uses various methods to rebuild their self-esteem so that they value their whole being. She helps them replace distorted images of their bodies with realistic images. Danielle is also aware of the fear that is often related to food. She facilitates her clients in developing a healthy relationship with food so that they learn to love and nurture their bodies.
